Final Synopsis

Synopsis of Opening sequence:

The story is about a girl called Love, being kidnapped, locked in a prison cell, and verbally tortured by a crazy, evil man called Autem.
The story begins with Love in a car boot tied up, not knowing where she is or what to do. He drags her out of the car through the prison and all the way to her cell, were he left her on the floor next to a pile of roses on a stool. The roses are decorated in gold all over their petals and dripping with water. She suddenly wakes up, very scared and confused as to where she is or what has just happened to her. She gets up wanting to leave, but Autem, who has been hiding behind the door spectating her this whole time, warns her before she gets too close to the door. He barges into the room and starts to threaten her for no apparent reason, as if she really hurt him in the past. She starts to stalk backwards towards the wall, searching for comfort. He continues his tantrum but before he can go any further, another guy lashes back at him for being too aggressive to her. They start to argue, but eventually the first guy takes the conflict outside the room. She gets up wanting to confront him back, and slams the door, to get his attention, but the door just jumps open. Surprised, she opens the door and looks around the corridor, eventually walking down it, towards anywhere that will lead her out of the prison she was just in. She continues hesitantly walking, eventually stumbling upon a shocking room, she gasps, as she sees a saw blade, and heads with names next to each one, neatly displayed on a shelf. She then looks further and notices her name carved into a wood plank on the wall with a sketch of her scratched into the wall above it.

Backstory:

The story is about a man called Autem (which is Latin for Will, as in 'will power'), and a girl called Love. Autem suffers from MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder), and was exiled as a child by his parent to a Mental hospital, because he was seen as too dangerous. He has 8 different personalities, each named after an emotion, their names are: Anger, Happy (his base personality), Stressed, Disgust, Excited, Sad, Fear... and Love. He has the ability to switch between each one at will and have conversations with each one (Each personality has a mix of everyone else but the one they are named after is greatly amplified respectively, his voice changes per personality). Autem made new friends in the hospital and slowly starting to recover from his parental trauma. However, he was then abandoned by the hospital after a few short years. They moved to a new facility, but 'accidentally' forgot him behind. The reason for this is because, even though he didn't want too, his Anger personality would strike out too often, and hurt both verbally and physically the other kids. Instead of transferring Autem to a new hospital and in turn passing on the problem, the hospital decided to lock him away while they move. Because of their actions, he let his Anger personality become his base and started to suppress and degrade his Love personality, so he never gets hurt ever again, since she is the most vulnerable one. But, what is life without Love?

Reasons for certain aspects in the film:

The short film is shot through Love's perspective, in a dark and creepy prison/abandoned mental asylum. The whole film is a rendering of inside Autem's mind. You, as an audience member, are not meant to find that out until the end of the whole short film, the twist at the end is that you realise that the movie was actually a rendering of his imagination. As an audience member, you see her trying to escape the prison, the prison being his imaginations rendering of the darkest/saddest part to his mind. However, Autem is always there one step ahead making sure she never sees the light of day. Remember, Love is an embodiment of an emotion, she is literally an emotion. Hence, she never says a word, because she can't, and hence she is trying to escape, because love always finds a way around back into someone’s heart (or in this case, personalities). You never see the full figure of Autem throughout the film, you see his arm, back of the head, foot, but never a full picture of how he looks like. The reason for this is because he depended on Love to protect him while he was suffering, he needed Love to love him (which is another way of saying he needed to learn to love himself for who he is), and without her he feels a big part is missing from himself, he feels Faceless (hence the title of the movie being FACELESS), so I took it literally and never showed his face on screen. The roses are a symbol of each character presented in the film. The red roses represent Love, the white represents Happy, and the black represent Anger. they are there to symbolise that even though they are shown being apart and in a distance from one another, they are actually as close to each other as the roses are. The roses have gold on them because gold is never tarnishing or rusting, I was trying to represent how each character has a very close bond to each other whether they like it or not.
