How props are used

The choice of props for this film is key. A lot of the films context surrounds the story behind certain props, and reasoning for their placement and use. We chose red roses to be the focus for the opening sequence because of its representations in society. Red roses are an antithesis in this film. They are usually used to show love and affection, however, nothing like that is happening within the cell in our film. This contrast emphasises the anger and verbal violence, the villain spews onto the female. Through the contrast, the deep red colour can also be linked to blood which can emphasis the verbal violence.

The coloured lights are used as a very effective and explicit way of showing/emphasising emotions within the scene. A range of colours within each scene will be used to show emotions of each characters as well as the type of emotions they are projecting out into the room. A character might look calm on the outside but is very angry on the inside, therefore coloured lighting will be used to emphasise that inner emotion the character is projecting out into the surroundings.

Fake blood will be used to show the damage done to the protagonist hand, through the cut done by the glass. This use of blood will add an effect of gore to the film, which can then in turn be used to amplify the fear factor of the film.

Example of films which use such props can be found below:

Colour: Sin City

Even though the film is in black and white colour is used to emphasis emotions and objects with meaning behind them.

Red roses: Beauty and the Beast

The story behind that rose that features in the film is very deep and even though the rose is placed on the side, it has a great importance to the main characters.

Fake blood: The shinning

The blood scene is used to amplify gore and fear within the film.
