The usual suspects 

The mood created by the film is mysterious and is made to make you guess which keeps you involved and interested in the movie as we need to decode what happens. 

The opening scene is a close up of matchsticks and the dietetic sound of the music makes the scene dark and thrilling due to its fast pace which creates the fantasy and involvement with the characters in the scene. 

All the characters are presented in different ways however through all the differences they all manage to end up in the same situation and being questioned about the crime they ‘committed. McManus is the first of the five characters to get arrested. He is presented as not wealthy and we see how he is used to being arrested by the police by how rude he is to them when they come in and wake him up. He is very aggressive shown by his use of words which makes everyone around him aware he is dangerous. 

The second person they arrest is Hockney. He is a working mechanic. When the police arrest him he is very casual and sarcastic which shows this is a very usual thing for him.

The third person that is arrested is called Fenster and when he gets arrested he runs away when he realises the police are following him which demonstrates he is nervous and doesn't understand what is going on. When they arrest him and they are being questioned he stands in the middle which demonstrates he is in charge and highlights his authority. 

The fourth person to be arrested is Keaton. Keaton is the only one being aggressively handled and they put him in handcuffs which implies that he is a very dangerous person.

Verbal is the last to be arrested he is presented as someone who doesn't fit in. We can tell this as he is the only one that has a voice over when being presented therefore the audience instantly think more into the character.  

The sound in the film helps the audience to identify the genre of the film as being a drama and thriller film. The director uses serious music at the beginning from the film to introduce the characters and uses a non dietetic voice overs to helps us understand the story line. When the gun shots are fired and the police come the music then stops completely therefore we can tell the story line of the film is going to be based around a crime.
