‘A particular group at which a product such as a film or advertisement is aimed’.
Based on the information we have researched on IMDB we discovered that films which are similar to ours, and within the same genre have a majority target audience of Males, aged between 18-29. The movie ‘Vertigo’ is an exception in terms of age, as it is was released a long time ago, back in 1958, therefore people who will be viewing this would have been much younger when this was officially released, we will use the data from this movie to determine the gender.
The audience I personally am targeting is within the age range of 16-29. This is the age range most accessible to me, all students within my school that I want to target are within the ages of 16-19. People within this age range are also clinically know to still be developing their identity and emotions, because of this I think that members of the audience can sympathise for the girl at a deeper level, one way or another. They may sympathise for the girl because her emotional development has been disrupted by this horrific event, that will ultimately lead to long term damaging effects to her mental health. This will make the viewers have a more ‘personal’ relatable connection with the film. Ultimately drawing in their attention closer.
To get a better, more accurate assumption as to what my target audience should be, I went to IMDB’s list of the top 20 best thriller films. I then took this data and made it into a pie chart that shows the age range of the audience members who voted the most/highest on average (at time of writing). I did not include gender because I want to target anyone who has an interest in the film rather than a certain gender.
